Accepting Me

Hi, so this week's secret blogger project is called 'Accepting Me' I think that being yourself and having confidence is one of the most important things today. There are too many pressures in this world for girls to have a 'perfect' figure, but the thing is that there is no 'perfect figure' because everyone is perfect.

I want to tell you about my struggle with self confidence and how I have started to over come it. The thing is I've always had a problem with comparing myself to others and never feeling good enough for anyone else. I look in the mirror and I point out everything 'wrong' with me. I could never see anything nice. But then I realised, with the help of my best friend, that I am worth something and I have started to do things I never dreamt of. I've stopped caring as much if I embarrass my self, I'll just laugh it off. I joined NCS and made new friends, I started trying harder in drama and not caring if people laugh or judge me.

Although I have made a few changes, it's doesn't mean that I see myself any better and I always worry that people will just laugh at me behind my back. But I think it's important for teenagers today to hear about this. 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities like cutting, bullying, smoking, drinking, or disordered eating compared to the 25% with high self esteem, this needs to change. We live in a society where we can't be ourselves as we are scared of judgement and bullying and we no longer feel like we are good enough for ourselves or others.

Young people today need encouraged to stop pointing out the bad things that they see in the mirror but notice all of the good things, the things you like about yourself. We need to start doing more of what we enjoy and less of what we feel pressured into doing. If  you feel happy doing something you should do it, we need to stop doing things to make other people happy. The most important person in this world to you, is you and you always come first.  Who cares if the girl in your year thinks your "weird" because you know that's not true. Anyway, being "Normal" is boring.

So, no I may not be the best at singing or dancing, or the best at English and History, but I am the best at being me, and no-one can take that away from me.

I thought I would end this post with some quotes, because cute life quotes play a big part in my life. They make me realise that I am perfect.( Sorry about how messy they are, I have the curse of being left handed)

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post. Leave a comment telling me what you love about yourself.

Until Next Time, Katie x

  1. Shared this post on Google plus so people can read it and maybe take something away from it. We aren't here to impress others, the first person we have to impress is ourselves! Very inspiring and I love that you added the quotes, which is your favourite one? Mine is the one that says "Your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth." :)
