Revision Tips Collab

Hi, so as you probably have noticed I have been spending a lot of time revising over the past few weeks and with my GCSEs coming up in around a month I thought I would share one of my revision techniques. This is part of a collab involving some of my closest blogging friends, after reading my post please go and check their's out.

1) Make A revision Timetable
In order for you to stay organised and focused you should make a revision timetable saying when you are going to revise and what you are going to do. Make sure you give yourself lots of breaks. I like to work for 25 Minutes and have a 5 minute break and after finishing revising the subject I am doing I give myself a 10 minute break. This is because your brain only works at its best for a certain amount of time and after that it becomes increasingly harder to stay focused. I also advise to split your revision sessions into different subjects as it will make it more interesting and you are dreading it less. For example after revising 1 hour of history I like to revise 1 hour of maths because I enjoy maths a lot more so I am focused to finish my history revision.

2) Use Quizlet

Quizlet is a website and a free a where you can make your own revision cards. You can also search for sets of cards that other people have made. I find this extremely useful for my languages subjects and also learning dates in history. It has fun games which help you learn everything and it is a different way to revise. I also find, with having quizlet on my phone, before I go to sleep at night I can test myself on something that I have revised during the day. They do say that revising before you go to sleep makes you remember things better.

3) Use Mind Maps
Normally I hate mindmaps and I dont know why, however I find this is a great way to start your revision. I sit down with all of my revision guides and exercise books on the topic and make a mind map with all of the key facts that you need to know. I like to use different colours as I think I might be a visual/read and write learner. This condenses a lot of information into smaller easier to digest chunks making it easier to learn.

4) Use Revision Cards
After making my mind maps I like to then condense my information down again onto smaller not cards. I include all of the key facts
that I need. After making my revision cards I either get someone in my family to help or I do it by myself and I test myself. I feel like this is an easy way to revise.

5) Practice Exam Questions
Its all good and well knowing all of the information but you need to be able to use that information to answer questions like the ones you will get in the exam. This will also help with your exam technique and time management. Do some questions and mark them. If you get things wrong then make sure you go back over that section. Then a few weeks later do all of the questions that you got wrong again and see whether you improve.

6) Give Yourself Treats
Although revision is extremely important, especially for GCSE and A level, you need to always make sure that you leave time for yourself and treat yourself. This can be as simple as when you finish doing a certain topic you allow yourself to watch youtube for 20 minutes or you can have a day off and go shopping and just relax.

7) Stay well Hydrated
This is important during your revision, always try to be healthy with snacks as well, you want to be eating fruit and vegetables. Also fun fact coffee is not bad drink to have whilst revising, because it keeps you awake, and peanut butter is actually quite healthy and can keep you full for quite a long time.

8) Try not to worry
Although it can be extremely hard to not worry about failing your exams, but you can only do your best and if you put al your effort in that is what counts. In the grand scheme of things it isn't that important so just try to relax and enjoy being a teenage. Bill Gates failed some of his exams, look where he is now.
